The Foundling’s Tale
The foundling in this work however finds itself in the modern reality of loneliness, being disregarded and under-appreciated. People have lost touch with their surrounding land and inner spirit. They abandoned the forests, trees and boulders following a loss and confusion of identity and origin. This speculative folktale sees the stone come to life, in a fit of rage, hunting wildlife and people for they have wronged it by lack of gratitude and respect. It is only upon seeing its own reflection that the foundling retrieves back into the forrest to rest, the way we are used to seeing it, nestled in-between the trees.
To give thanks to the stones for their pacifying nature and eternal wisdom and to prevent them from going rogue again, a ritual of stone-care emerges. Time spent with the foundling to reconnect and restore our connection to nature. The stone is washed, adorned and voiced, using a ritualistic ceramic stone-voicing tool that relieves it from pent-up emotions and gives it a space and time to breathe and let go.
In this time of digital monopoly, it is crucial to look at individual, local histories through new lenses to reconnect personally and spiritually.
