Techno-Realism

Font and Silkscreen Print, 2023
With each passing day, computer systems are becoming increasingly organic and integrated seamlessly into our lives and the natural world. These machines, which were once seen as cold and rational, are now capable of imitating touch, emotions, and thought. Despite being made of inanimate matter, they are capable of imagining worlds that seem just as real as ours.
Technorealism is a typeface designed to touch on this dichotomy of natural and technological. Bold yet whimsical, playful yet structured. created only in a digital space. An imitation of reality made visible through computer envisioned light ray bounces.

The silkscreen-printed Poster reads a quote by E.T.A. Hoffmann from 1816 from the text „Der Sandmann" and can loosely be translated to "you profound mind, in which my entire being is reflected." it beautifully captures Nathanael's deep affection and fascination with Olimpia. He is entranced by every aspect of her being, and despite her being an automaton created to mimic reality, Nathanael is drawn to her perfect, unblemished and sterile beauty.
Olimpias existence challenges the line between artificiality and reality, technology and nature, provoking the question of how much technology we allow into our lives and where to set boundaries. It's a thought-provoking reflection on the human relationship with technology, reminiscent of todays circumstances. will we - like nathanael - descend into madness or will we grow stronger for it?
